Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. Application form for Change or Update Information in Passport in Ghana is available in the Ghana Visa Application Centre (VAC) or Ghana immigration service office contact link
2. Applicant has to approach the Ghana immigration service office and applicant can get their application form for change or update passport.
3. Applicant has to enter all information in the application form.
4. Applicant must make sure to carry all necessary documents that are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page. (Both photocopies and originals)
5. A fee detail for this procedure is mentioned in the “Fees” section of this page.
6. For Adoption of Marriage names also please attach a letter requesting adoption of Marriage name indicating how the new names should read.
7. For correction of dates of birth/place of birth, Original Birth Certificate used to obtain the first passport which should bear the stamp of Immigration Department is required.
8. Submit the completed form along with supporting documents (listed below) for verification and processing.
9. Applicant will be notified of the outcome, if approved you will be issued with the passport, re-visit the embassy with your identification proof document and claim your passport.
10. Generally, the processing time for this procedure is taken 1-15 working days.

Required Documents

• Copies of marriage certificate, Deed Poll registered in Ghana Gazette, Divorcee Decree or proof of marriage dissolution.
• Attach a letter requesting adoption of Marriage name
• Letter of consent from spouse indicating the name to be adopted
• Copy of passport or Identity Card of the spouse
• Original and two copies of current passport (First page and bio-data page with picture and information page. Valid Visa if applicant has any in Old Passport or the Last page).
• Two passport size photographs on a white background.
• National identification card of the applicant
• Proof of Profession if changed
• Copies of Certificate of Registration if Ghana by registration.
• Additional documentary for proof of Ghana citizenship may be required if necessary.

Validity

• The Passport is valid for ten years from the date of issue and renewable afterward.

Need for the Document

• A passport is a document, issued by the national government. It certifies the identity and nationality of the holder for travel abroad. It contains information about the holder; like name, gender, date and place of birth.
• It is important that the name on your passport matches you legal name. If there are any changes in your name, have the information on your passport modified as soon as possible.
