Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. Applicant has to approach the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority Head Office in Ghana and the applicant can get their application form for International Driver License (IDL) contact link
2. Applicant has to enter all information in the application form.
3. Applicant must make sure to carry all necessary documents that are mentioned under “Required Documents” section of this page. (Both photocopies and originals)
4. Please refer to the fees details in the “Fees” section of this page.
5. Applicant should be physically present in the driver license office where you are requesting for international driver license.
6. Road signs and rod marking test (when the need arises).
7. If applicant passes the road signs test, you will then take the last driving exam with a DVLA instructor.
8. If applicants pass the driving test with no errors, he / she then qualify for a cover note.
9. After completing and passing all the exams you are required to pay for a temporary driver’s license and is given a date to return to the authority, on the return date, the applicant must carry his/her cover note issued by the authority instructor.
10. The details to appear in your driver’s licenses will also be captured during this visit.
11. After completing all the process, the applicant is given a date to return to the authority, on the return date, the applicant must carry his/her cover note issued by the authority instructor to turn in for a driver’s license.
12. Generally, the processing time for this procedure takes 3 months.

• Filling of forms
• Original passport or clear passport copy.
• Original emirates ID or copy of valid visa.
• Original valid UAE driving license.
• Road signs and rod marking test (when the need arises).
• 2 photographs (it is possible to use a photograph previously stored in the vehicular and driver data register from which the applicant can be easily recognized)
• a doctor's statement issued no more than six months earlier
• a certificate for the local knowledge test performed no more than six months earlier
• PAN card
• National identity card

• Taxi driver licenses are issued by the police.
• A taxi driver has the right to operate a taxi when the license is issued to him.
• There are prerequisites taken into account when assessing taxi driver’s personal qualities.
• An applicant is not considered to be fit when he or she has committed a traffic offense or some other criminal offense prescribed in law.
