ProcedureEdit

Step I - Fill the Declaration Form.

The first thing is to apply and fill a declaration form at customs for accompanying goods at the point of entry into Egypt. Then attach a list of all goods that are declared as free entry goods.

Then provide a copy of completed inventory of imported goods to the director general of customs,indicating that the imported goods are for personal effect and for a Foreign diplomats, members of government or international organizations.

  • Import letter of exemption addressed to the Customs Director

Three authorized letters endorsed by governmental umbrella, addressed to: Alex. Customs Director, Shipping Agency & Bonded Warehouse

  • Fill form 126 km and attach the following documents:
  • Diplomatic Card & Diplomat Passport original
  • Bill of Lading/Air Waybill or Express Release - copy
  • Documents from Ministry of Foreign
  • Affairs supporting evidence of mission


Step II - Complete a Personal Effects Statement form.

You should also submit a list of the household items which is not on the declaration form and these must be Personal Effects they are not taxed at the point of entry.

This form must be completed by the Yourself (Diplomat,member of government or international organization) ; however, you can nominate a representative such as a freight forwarder, customs broker, friend or relative to act on your behalf. This form is also available at any Egyptian Embassy or Egyptian Tax Authority and Border Point of entry, from your customs broker, or on the ETA website. The form is available in a number of foreign languages, however must be completed in English or Arabic.


Step III - Attach the following documents
  • Evidence of Identity (EOI) including at least one primary document (evidence of identity for documentary (paper) transactions)
  • A detailed packing list
  • An Arrival Delivery Notice or Delivery Notice if you used (sea cargo) or Air Waybill notice if you used air (air cargo).

Entry & Exit Requirements
  • US citizens residing in Egypt are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program to stay current regarding safety and security announcements provided by the Embassy or Consulate.
  • It will also help your friends and family to get in touch with you in an emergency. Diplomatic and Official passport holders are required without exception to have a visa before arrival in Egypt.
  • The Egyptian Embassy in Washington is currently requiring 7-10 working days to process official visa requests, an expedite letter from the Department of State notwithstanding, so it is incumbent upon all official travelers to submit their visa requests and passports to the Egyptian Embassy well in advance of travel.
  • Foreigners can acquire a work permit from the Ministry of Manpower and Immigration offices in the district of the employer, and accordingly are authorized residency in the country.

EligibilityEdit

  • To be eligible to import Household items you must be Foreign diplomats, members of government or international organizations like UN arriving from a place outside Egypt and the items must be your personal property new or Used items.
  • Full diplomatic shipments are not subject to inspection, however international members of the organization and Government members are subject to inspection.
  • To be eligible to import Household items you must be Egyptian Diplomat who is coming back to Egypt after finalizing the period of service in the foreign country.
  • Army men who finalized their period Service in Foreign Country and need to be back to Egypt,Must Provide Ministry of Defense Letter.

InstructionsEdit

  • If you are a foreign Diplomat or members of government or international organizations and posted or intending settle in Egypt.
  • Must provide Ministry of Foreign Affair Letter if your a diplomat from with in and outside Egypt.
  • Must provide Ministry of defense letter if you have be working out side Egypt.
  • Only Diplomats may import cars older than 1 year of age
  • The Temporary registration must be obtained by the shipper

Need for the DocumentEdit

Foreign diplomats, members of government or international organizations are granted tax and duty free entry of their personal effects and household items either new or used. Full diplomatic shipments are not subject to inspection. Local Agent should prepare the Diplomatic Card and exemption papers with the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs no less than 3-4 weeks from date of arrival of diplomat into Egypt.
