Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Get License or Permit for Nuclear Reactors, the applicant must register Ministry of Electricity and Energy contact link
2. Applicant must obtain the application form from the relevant department.
3. The applicant must fill up all the required application form for this procedure or for research clearance.
4. The applicant has to make sure that he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
5. Applicant should attach photocopies of documents (whichever is necessary) along with the applicant form while submitting it at the office.
6. No fee is required to register for irradiation facility.
7. Submit the completed forms along with the supporting documents at the respective office for verification and processing.
8. This application will be processed and information will be verified by the authority.
9. If the application is approved, the applicant shall receive the license within the stipulated processing period on their mail address.
10. If there is no information regarding the application, then, the applicant can visit the office to know status of the application.
11. The processing time for this procedure takes up to 30 days.

Eligibility

• The age of the applicant should be 18 years or above.
• The applicant should be a citizen of Egypt.
• The applicant must be owner of an institute before starting the Nuclear Reactors.

• No fee is required to register for irradiation facility.

• Applicant must apply to the ERC for an Authorization if Applicant wishes to construct or reconstruct a nuclear station. Each generating station construction or reconstruction project Applicant intends to develop will require a separate Authorization.

Need for the Document

• The NRC licenses all commercially owned nuclear power plants that produce electricity in the Egypt. After the initial license is granted, the license may be amended, renewed, transferred, or otherwise modified, depending on activities that affect the reactor during its operating life.

• Approval is not required for licensing agreements involving trademarks and technical know-how other than “process secrets.”
• A stiff withholding tax is levied on royalty payments unless a double taxation treaty exists. There is a U.S.-Egyptian treaty for the avoidance of double taxation, which limits the tax on royalty payments to 15% of the gross amount of such royalty.
• Numerous government and private companies have licensing agreements with foreign firms under which royalties and other fees are freely transferred abroad pursuant to individual corporate agreements.
• Examples of licensed production in Egypt include name-brand clothing, personal care products, kitchen utensils, laser alignment equipment and military vehicles.
