Botswana - Replace a Lost or Damaged Land Title

ProcedureEdit

In case someone has lost/burnt/stolen/misplaced his or her Land Title, he or she shall approach the Land Board for replacement.

Step 1: Obtain affidavit and police abstract/report

  1. The land owner should start by visiting a police station to report the loss/damage/ stolen. Applicant is also to acquire police abstract from the police authorities which is a prerequisite to making the application. Botswana Police Service Contact Details
  2. Applicant is also to swear an affidavit of the circumstances surrounding the loss, theft, mutilation or damage. You are to attach this affidavit, with your application.


Step 2: Make the Application For replacement of the Land Title

  1. Proceed to the nearest Botswana Land Board or Sub Land Board office within your jurisdiction and express your interest to the land board attending officer.Botswana Land Board or Sub Land Board Contact Details
  2. Submit the supporting documentation listed under the “Required Document” section of this page, to be verified by the registrar, who will then verify that all the necessary documentation has been provided and that the applications comply with the selection criteria before issuing the applicant the appropriate Application form. Forms are not available online.
  3. The application form duly completed in all respect, and the attachments should be submitted to the Botswana Land Board or Sub Land Board office within their jurisdiction to be registered for processing.
  4. Upon receipt of the request, the client will be required to make payment of the prescribed fee as mentioned on the “Fees” section of this page, either at the cash desk at the land board office and obtain a payment receipt.
  5. Applicants will then be issued with an acknowledgment letter as proof of submission of the application.


Step 3: Processing and issue of the land title deed.

  1. After lapse of the processing period which is within one month, applicants should visit the land board office, where the application was filed to check the outcome.
  2. If successful, the land title deed will be printed on a paper with special security features and issued to the applicant against their identity document and the acknowledgment letter.

  • Holders of the Land Title, who land deed is either stolen, Lost or destroy is eligible to apply.

  • A fees of BWP 20.00 is charged for the land title deed.

  • The land title deed is valid forever.
