Apply In-Person

  • To Renew a Vehicle License, the application process can either be filed at the Department of Road Transport and Safety (DRTS) offices or Botswana Post or Metro Sefalana Kiosk to apply (contact details listed below)


At the Department of Road Transport and Safety offices

  1. Applicants should visit the nearest Department of Road Transport and Safety offices (DRTS), Registration and licensing section, and Produce an original or copy of the registration book to be validated by the Licensing Office.
  2. The Licensing Office will initiate the search for the vehicle in the Government vehicle registration system and if the vehicle is registered, the owners and vehicle details and the license fee that is to be paid will be displayed on the computer screen.
  3. The Licensing Office will then issue the client with an invoice indicating the prescribed fee which is to be paid at the DRST cash counter and obtain a payment receipt.
  4. Present the payment receipt to the Registration and Licensing Officer, who will then update it into the Government vehicle registration system and the client will be issued with a vehicle license disc sticker, which should be affixed on the car’s front windshield window.

Via the Botswana Post

  1. Applicants should visit the Botswana Post website via this link,Link and select the E-SERVICES option on the menu bar then select VEHICLE LICENSE RENEWAL on the drop box.
  2. You will be redirected to the next page, log in with your credential if registered, if you are not registered, click on the REGISTER HERE tab.
  3. Fill out the registration form accurately then click on the SUBMIT tab.
  4. An account activation link will be sent to the email address, you had registered with, click on the link, you will then be re-directed to the Botswana Post platform, enter your (email address and password), and then click on the LOGIN tab to access your account.
  5. The vehicle registration details page will be displayed, select if you wish to;
    • Search by Car Owner National ID (Citizen)/ VRL ID (Non-Citizen/Organisation) OR
    • Search by Registration Book Number
  6. Fill out all mandatory fields accurately, as per your search then click on SUBMIT tab.
  7. Upon receipt of the request, the Botswana Post will send you an invoice with a link for payment via the email address you had registered with to complete payment.
  8. Upon making payment, you will receive a payment receipt confirming the payment via mail.
  9. The disc will be delivered to you around Gaborone for P50 or you can receive it from your mailbox at your convenience at P10 nationwide.

ValidityEdit

  • The vehicle license is valid for one year and should be renewed annually, ideally 3 months before expiry.

  • A driving license is issued as an authority to allow a person to drive a motor vehicle of any class on a road. No person shall be allowed to drive a motor vehicle on road unless he/she is the holder of a valid driving license or a provisional license endorsed in respect of that class of vehicle.
