ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person

  1. The application for a Zebra Athletes Fund shall be made by eligible interested individuals or the National Sports Associations, upon identifying a potential project that should be considered for financing from this Fund. BNSC contact details
  2. All Projects proposals should be submitted to the Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) Secretariat by end of December of each year.
  3. All applications shall be screened, for processing and consideration by the Sports Development Committee en route successful candidates will be shortlisted.
  4. The shortlist shall then be filed with the Sports Development Committee en route to the BNSC Board, whose decision shall be final.
  5. The BNSC Board will only approve the funding of a project if it's satisfied that the projects meet the following criteria,
    • The project will have a significant impact on the target population.
    • The project has strong prospects for successful implementation.
    • The project is technically sound in conception and presentation.
    • The project is financially viable over a long period of time.
  6. The Fund shall be administered by the BNSC Secretariat through the Sports Development Committee and managed by the Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC).
  7. Beneficiaries of the funding scheme will be notified of the outcome via the applicable notification mode and given further instructions on how funding will be allocated.

Botswana sporting groups, groups of individuals, or individuals that seek to enhance the provision of facilities, equipment, and sports opportunities for grassroots and youth sports, girls and women sports, marginalized communities, people with disabilities, and athletes with a disability are eligible to apply.

Need for the DocumentEdit

The Zebra Athletes Fund was established to:

  • To ensure the growth of youth players and youth teams
  • To support competitions and camps covering both secondary and primary school children.
  • To construct, upgrade and maintain infrastructure, as may be required for participation in sports.
  • To support up-and-coming National Sports Federations to develop competitive national teams through targeted projects and talent identification programs.
  • Address inequalities in opportunities.
  • To supply equipment to NSA or other sporting groups, groups of individuals to promote participation in sports.
  • Increase physical activity levels of people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Introduce new sporting opportunities for people.
  • To support NSA in funding for age-based competitions in U20 and U18.
  • Develop programs to attract greater numbers of inactive young people.
  • Improve health.
