ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person

  1. Submit a written request to the Director of the Radiation Protection Inspectorate stating why your organization needs to contract the Inspectorate to conduct a radiological inspection(s) and your contact information. The request should be addressed as follows:
    Director

    Ministry of Infrastructure, Science and Technology

    Gaborone,
    Botswana
  2. After the request letter has been received by the Director of the Radiation Protection Inspectorate and verify.
  3. If the director is satisfied that the request letter has complied with all the requirements detail as set for the inspection request you will contact you by phone to schedule a date and time for the inspection(s) within 2 weeks.
  • You will then be issued an invoice for payment of the required fees, please note that the inspection will only be conducted by the department upon payment of the fees.

The fees, payable by cash, cheque, or adjustment voucher paid to the Radiation Protection Inspectorate are stipulated in the radiation protection regulation 2008

Processing TimeEdit

  • After the request letter has been received by the Director of the Radiation Protection Inspectorate you will receive a response within two weeks.
  • The inspections themselves vary from two hours in length to a week depending on the number of radiation sources to be inspected and the complexity of the tests to be performed

InstructionsEdit

It is the responsibility of individual organizations to contract experts to conduct routine radiological safety inspections. In locations where expert contractors are not available the Radiation Protection Inspectorate can provide routine radiological inspections on a consultancy basis.

  • Particulars of the facility (location, postal address, telephone number, e-mail address)
  • Particulars of the applicant (name, email address, telephone and mobile number)
  • Reasons for the request of the inspection

Need for the DocumentEdit

The Radiation Protection Regulations, 2008, state that the Radiological safety inspections should be carried out to any facility(s) dealing with radioactive and nuclear material to ensure the protection of workers, the public and the environment from the adverse effects of ionizing radiation.
