ProcedureEdit

  1. Go to the municipality office/local registrar's office.
  2. Present required documents.
  3. Complete an application form: Application for License: Marriage, Remarriage, Civil Union, Reaffirmation of Civil Union Form.
  4. Pay the marriage license fee.

  • proof of identity by presenting your drivers license, passport or state/federal I.D.
  • roof of your residency
  • your social security card or social security number
  • copy of birth certificate
  • divorce decree certificate or death certificate of spouse (if previously married)

Note:

  • Any documents in a foreign language must be accompanied by a certified English translation.

EligibilityEdit

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • For applicants under the age of 18, they may enter into a marriage with parental consent.
  • For applicants under the age of 16, they must obtain parental consent and have the consent approved in writing by any judge of the Superior Court, Chancery Division, Family part.

Marriage license fee: $28



ValidityEdit

The marriage license is valid for 6 months from the date of application but can be extended to a maximum of one year.

InstructionsEdit

  • The marriage license application is to be made in the New Jersey municipality in which either party resides and the license is valid throughout the State of New Jersey.
  • If neither applicant is a New Jersey resident, submit the application in the municipality where the marriage ceremony will be performed, the license is only valid in the issuing municipality.
  • A witness ages 18 or above is required to attend the license application.
