Procedure

1. You will need to submit your request to obtain an Emergency Passport to the authorized services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
2. Complete an application form and submit it together with all other required documents (see list below).

You may use the link provided under "Office Locations & Contacts" to get in touch with the nearest Algerian embassy in the country you are currently staying. The office will process your request for an Emergency Passport.

Required Documents

• The completed form signed by the interested party or by the legal guardian for minors, with the addition of the fingerprint of the left index of the applicant.
• Attachments:
  • Copy of the expired passport, or related declaration in case of loss, damage or theft, for citizens living abroad;
  • Copy of the expired passport, or a copy of the national identity card for citizens residing in Algeria;
  • Copy of the consular registration card to citizens registered with a diplomatic or consular post;
  • Documentary proof that will support your reason why you need an emergency passport;
  • Two (2) passport photos (colored)
  • Revenue stamp of 6.000 DA.

Algerian Diplomatic and Consular representations abroad

Eligibility

The emergency passport is issued, in extremely urgent cases, and for the benefit of the following:

• Algerian citizens residing abroad and registered with a diplomatic or consular post, having no electronic biometric passport, and due to family, professional, administrative or health reasons, are forced to move in emergency, outside their country of residence;
• Algerian citizens residing abroad and registered with a diplomatic or consular post, temporarily staying in a country other than that of their country of residence, whose passport has been lost, damaged or stolen;
• Algerian citizens not registered with a diplomatic or consular post, the regularization file their immigration status, in terms of living, has been accepted by the authorities of the host country and requiring a valid passport;
• Algerian citizens who are temporarily living abroad, whose passport has been lost, damaged or stolen and being forced to go to one or more foreign countries before their return to Algeria;
• Algerian citizens residing abroad and registered with an embassy or consulate, located in temporary residence in Algeria, whose passport has been lost, damaged or stolen or whose validity period has expired, and lying forced to make their return to their country of residence;
• Algerian citizens residing in Algeria, having no passport and for family reasons, professional, administrative or health, are forced to move, in an emergency, outside the national territory.

Fees

Explain the fees structure which is required for obtaining the certificate/document.

Validity

The validity of the emergency passport is fixed to a maximum of one (1) year from the date of it was issued. It can not be extended.

Surrendering your Emergency Passport

The emergency passport must be returned to the competent authority when you receive a new electronic biometric passport.
