ProcedureEdit

  1. Get in touch with the local school district board of education office to make application on the districts standard employment application form.
  2. Submit an official college transcript to the board of education office NOT TO EPSB.
  3. Follow the instructions given to you to by the district to apply for the on-line certification from EPSB. General instructions - LINKS


Notes:

  • The EPSB website will be used to obtain the one-year certificate, but it will not be of value without prior information entered by the school district.
  • A separate Certificate for Emergency Certified Substitute Teaching must be obtained for EACH district in which the applicant plans to seek employment.

EligibilityEdit

To be eligible to substitute teach on an emergency basis, the applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution; ^
  • Have at least ninety-six semester hours of college credit with at least a 2.45 GPA;
  • From sixty-four to ninety-five semester hours of college credit with at least a 2.45 GPA.

^ Applicants who possess a bachelor's degree in any subject area from a regionally or nationally accredited institution of post-secondary education do not need to meet the minimum grade point average requirements (KRS.161.102).



FeesEdit

  • Initial Statement of Eligibility: -0-
  • One (1) year certificate: -0-
  • Five (5) year substitute certificate: $15.00
  • Duplicate Certificate: $25.00
  • Re-issuance of additional four (4) year certificate: $35.00
  • Renewal of Statement of Eligibility: $50.00
  • Issuance, re-issuance, or renewal of regular five (5) year certificate: $50.00
  • Addition of area or rank change: $50.00

Payment Options: Money Order, Cashiers Check, E-pay

Make cashiers check or money order payable to: KENTUCKY STATE TREASURER

Notes:

  • No personal checks or cash will be accepted
  • A $10.00 processing fee will be retained for certificates that cannot be issued



ValidityEdit

Certificate(s) for Emergency Certified Substitute Teaching are good for one school year only, and re-application must occur for the certificate each school year.

InstructionsEdit

The Division of Certification is responsible for issuing and renewing certificates for all Kentucky teachers and administrators.

Emergency substitute teacher applications for district EMPLOYMENT ARE NOT submitted through the Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB); however, the applicant must apply for and receive the one-year emergency certified substitute certification through the EPSB website. Instructions on this application form should be received at the district personnel office.
