Renew Online
- If you are eligible to renew your ID card online, click the link above.
- On the website, simply choose the transaction you are applying for and provide all the required information and pay the fee.
In Person
If you are not eligible to renew your ID card online or through a MVA Kiosk then you must renew your ID card over the counter.
- Prepare all the required documents you will need to present or submit to apply for the procedure.
- Go to an MVA office that can process ID card transactions.
- Complete an application and pay the fee.
Notes:
- Surrender of ID Card: The photo identification card (ID card) must be surrendered by the holder, upon being issued a Maryland driver's license.
- MVA will mail your new ID card using the address they have on record.
Required DocumentsEdit
To renew your ID card, you will need to present:
- Your expiring ID Card.
- If you are presenting a Maryland Driver's License or ID Card that has been expired for one (1) year or more, you will be processed as a new customer and must provide the MVA with additional documents.

- Photo ID Card - New/Renewal (18 & over): $24.00*
- Photo ID Card - Duplicate/Correction: $20.00
Notes:
- * Photo ID Card (All Types).
- There is no fee (gratis) for an ID Card if you are 65 years of age or older, or if you have a disability which limits a major life activity.
ValidityEdit
Effective October 1, 2012, the Maryland MVA started the conversion of Non-commercial drivers licenses and identification cards (ID cards) to an 8-year period of validity. ID cards for individuals 18 years of age and older will be valid for a period of 8 years and ID cards for those under the age of 18 will be valid for 5 years.

Applying online or through a MVA Kiosk: In order to increase customer service and decrease in-person wait times, effective April 1, 2014, MVA is requiring its customers who are eligible to renew their Maryland non-driver Identification (ID) Card online or MVA Kiosk to use one of these methods to process their transaction. In-person renewals for these customers will no longer be processed at MVA branch office locations.
Holders of limited term ID: Individuals with a limited term ID will continue to be issued a product with a validity period equal to their duration of lawful status in the United States and will NOT be able to renew using the mail, MVA Kiosk or the web.
