Apply In-Person

  1. To apply for renewal of tourist vehicle permit (jeep/omni/car) in Tripura the applicant has to approach the RTO office or permit issuing state/regional transport authorities of the area.
  2. Information related to the RTO offices and permit issuing state/regional transport authorities can be obtained from the “Office and Location” Section of this page.
  3. You will have to submit Application in Form No. 45 & 46 in front of permit authority.
  4. Application form no 45 can be downloaded from following link: form no 45

  6. Please make sure you have all the documents that are listed down the “Required Document” section of this page.
  7. Application forms can be obtained from the appropriate RTO offices that should be completed and presented with appropriate fees.
  8. Present the completed application forms in one of the counter and pay the appropriate fee where the officials would start processing your application.

EligibilityEdit


  • A company or an individual engaged in a business of promotion of tourism by providing tourist transport vehicles on tourist circuits; or
  • Any travel agency (who possesses his own vehicle or have taken a vehicle on lease for this purpose for a period of at least one year) run by a company or an individual provides all tickets for travel by air, rail, ship, passport, visa and also arrange accommodation, tours, entertainment and other tourism related services; or
  • The tour operator (Company or individual who provides for transport, accommodation, sight-seeing, entertainment and other tourist related, services for tourist, and who possesses his own vehicle or has taken a vehicle on lease for this purpose for a period of at least one year and is recognised by the Department of Tourist of the Government of India;

  • Rs 500/- per year for tourist permit in the form of Demand Draft drawn in favour of the Secretary(State Transport Authority)

ValidityEdit


  • A tourist permit shall be deemed to be invalid from the date on which the motor vehicle covered by the permit completes 9 years in the case of a motor cab and 8 years where the motor vehicle is other than a motor cab, unless the motor vehicle is replaced;
  • Where a vehicle covered by a tourist permit is proposed to be replaced by another, the latter vehicle shall not be more than two years old on the date of such replacement.

NOTE: For the purposes of this sub-rule, the period of [9 years or 8 years] shall be computed from the date of initial registration of the motor vehicle.

  1. Name of the applicant(s) in full
  2. Status of the applicant, whether individual, company or partnership firm, Coop. Society etc.
  3. Name of father or husband (in case of individual and in case of firm or company the particulars of managing partner or managing director as the case may be.
  4. Full address
  5. Information on whether applicant himself/herself intends to drive the vehicle. If so, whether, applicant:
    • Holds Heavy Passenger Motor vehicle Driving Licence
    • The number, date and validity period of driving licence
    • Name and address of the Licensing Authority.
    • Registration certificate along with the date of first registration and Insurance certificate number.
    • Details of other permits if any, held in respect of a particular vehicle
    • Details of total number of Tourist Permits held by the applicant
  6. Type of vehicle
  7. Make of Motor vehicle
  8. Particulars of convictions/suspension/ cancellation, if any, during the past three years in respect of the vehicle/permit held by the applicant(s).

  9. Pay load of the motor vehicle (seating capacity in the case of tourist vehicle).

Need for the DocumentEdit

Following the Central Motor Vehicle Rules of 1989, Tourist Vehicle Permit are granted to owners whose vehicles are used for tourism purposes.

The permit limits the journey of the vehicle within the home state, and it can only remain outside the home State for a period not longer than three months.

Q. What is a permit?
Ans: Any vehicle which is to be used for carrying goods or passengers for Commercial purpose essentially requires the permission (permit) of State Govt. under the provisions of M.V. Act, 1988 and rules framed there under. Permits are issued by State Transport authorities to control and to regulate operation of commercial vehicles.
Q. What is the difference between State and National Permit?

Ans: With State permit one can operate in the respective state only for which you have taken the permission and with national permit one can operate in whole country.

Q. Who is eligible for Permits?

Ans: Any registered owner of a transport vehicle can apply for the "Permit". However there are restrictions and permits are made available only after notification of Government.

Q. What are different types of permits available?

Ans: Six types of permits are functional in India:
  1. Stage Carriage Permit
  2. Contract Carriage Permit
  3. All India Tourist Vehicle Permit
  4. Private Service Vehicle Permit
  5. Goods carriage Permit
  6. National Permit Two other Permits (for short time duration):
(a) Temporary Permit
(b) Special Permit <br

Q. When can permits be applied ?

Ans: Normally permits can be applied any time. However the stage carriage permits are only issued at the time of notification as per policy. Further Supreme Courts direction for switching over to CNG made of fuel have also to be complied with at the time of time (or renewal) of permits.

Q. Who enforces the permit condition?

Ans: The enforcement wing of Transport Department inspect the permit conditions.

Q. What is the action taken against violation of permit conditions ?

Ans: Action is taken by State Transport Authority (STA) against these offenders Under Section 86 of M.V. Act for suspension/cancellation of permits.
  • Distinguishing Particulars to be exhibited on Tourist Motor Vehicle. —A motor vehicle or motor cab covered under the Authorisation Certificate issued under these rules shall be painted in white colour with a blue ribbon of 10 centimetres width at the centre of the exterior of the body on both sides of the vehicle, and the word “Tourist” shall be painted inside a circle of 60 centimetres diameter. The permit holder shall also display on the front top of the tourist vehicle, other than a motor cab a board in yellow colour with letters in black colour with the inscription “Approved Tourist Transport Operator No....” in English and Hindi, and also if the permit holder so prefers, in the regional language of the Home State, with the logo Peacock', as specified in Annexure No. 1.”
