Sri Lanka - Obtain Marriage Certificate

ProcedureEdit

  1. Application for marriage certificate can obtain from any Divisional Secretariat, however, Refer the application to the Divisional Secretariat of the area where the registration took place. District and Divisional Secretariat portal website
  2. Fill in the application form with the relevant information. (Uncertain information can affect the search of your certificate.)
  3. Submit the filled application to the Divisional Secretariat and pay the applicable fee for your Application
  4. Fees chargeable
    • Where the date of  registration or the no. of the entry is given the fee for one copy of the certificate is Rs.100.00
    • Where the date of  registration or the no. of the entry is not given and a search of registers not exceeding two years is involved fee for one copy of the certificate is Rs.200.00
  5. If you like to obtain the certificate of marriage by post, submit a stamped envelope with the application.
  6. If the marriage is registered, a certificate of marriage will be send and if the marriage is not registered a letter to the effect will be send.
  7. After receiving your certificate, it is better to get it attested for authentication perposes.
Attestation of the marriage certificate
  • Visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the document attestation or book an appointment through online by clicking on this link Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Fill in the appointment form and click on create to submit the appointment.

NOTE: If you are living abroad, please visit the nearest Consulate or Any Sri Lanka embassy to assist on how to apply for your marriage certificate.

It is important to provide the dates when you marriage was resisted for easy search and processing and you want your certificate to be sent to you by post, ensure to submit a stumped envelope with your correct address to the Division secretariat.
