The eligibility requirements to apply for Milk Producer registration are:

  • Persons who purchase raw milk from any source with the purpose of processing it, or to use it for the manufacturing of other products, or to sell it to persons outside the jurisdiction of South Africa, or to move it outside the jurisdiction of South Africa.
  • Milk producers who sell raw milk produced by their own dairy animals, to consumers, or for the use thereof for production, or for the manufacturing of other products, or sell it to persons outside the jurisdiction of South Africa, or move it outside the jurisdiction of South Africa.
  • Any person who sells raw milk to a retailer.
  • Any person importing dairy products which resort under the 04.01 to 04.06 customs tariff classification.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • As per the Marketing of Agricultural Products Act, any Milk producer must compulsorily register themselves with the Milk SA to proceed with their business.
  • Any person is working as a Milk Producer without the registration certificate is a punishable offense in SA.



Information which might helpEdit

  • Confidential information of any person who is subject to registration in terms of the statutory measures, will be safeguarded by Milk SA by virtue of section 23(2) of the Marketing of Agricultural Products Act, 1996 (Act No. 47 of 1996).
  • A person who is subject to registration in terms of the statutory measures, must keep records of the variables as stipulated in these measures, as also reflected in the monthly return forms.
  • Return forms as designed by Milk SA, must be submitted to Milk SA on a monthly basis, within fifteen (15) days after the end of each calendar month.
  • Levies, as declared by the registered person on the monthly return form, must be paid to Milk SA monthly, within fifteen (15) days after the end of a calendar month. Interest on overdue levies is charged in terms of The Prescribed Rate of Interest Act of 1975 (Act No. 55 of 1975).
