Apply by Mail:
- To Apply for Registration of Basic Ambulance Assistants, Ambulance Emergency Assistants, Operational Emergency Care Orderly, and Paramedics, the applicant must go to the Health Professions Council of South Africa’s (HPCSA) office. Contact Link
- The application form (s) must be obtained from the authorities at the HPCSA office, else the application form can be downloaded from the official website linked here.
- Form 23 EMB Application Form Link
- Form 24 EMB Application Form Link
- Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The application form must be filled with all the necessary details, and along with the required documents, it must be sent via registered mail or through courier service to the HPCSA office.
- The applicant sending mail or the courier must address the application to the “Registrar of the HPCSA”.
- The application will then be verified by the official at the HPCSA members.
- If the details and the documents submitted by the applicant is valid and legitimate, then the registration will be approved by the officials at the HPCSA.
- Then the applicant will be issued with the registration certificate as a physical copy as well as electronic copy of the registration certificate will be sent to the applicant email.
- The registration fee must be paid along with the application which is R1766.00, and the receipt must be attached along with the application.

- The processing time for the registration will be intimated after applying.
- Note:
- The appropriate application for the following registration is as follows:
- For BAA – Form 23 or Form 24
- For ANA – Form 23
- For OECO – Form 23 or Form 24
- For Paramedic ANT – Form 23

For BAA:
- Form 23 EMB duly completed by applicant and training institution, or Form 24 EMB duly completed with original qualification certificate or a copy certified by an Attorney in his/her capacity as a Notary Public bearing the official stamp.
- Copy of ID document with a clear photograph or birth certificate.
- Original Matric certificate or a copy certified by an Attorney in his/her capacity as a Notary Public bearing the official stamp.
- Proof of payment.
For ANA:
- If the applicant was first registered as BAA, the BAA registration must be in order (annual fee must be paid up to date before processing ANA registration)
- Form 23 EMB duly completed by applicant or training institution, with original qualification certificate or a copy certified by Notary Public.
- Certified copy of ID document with a clear photograph or Birth Certificate.
- Registration fee and pro-rata annual fee.
- Registered in the category: Independent Practice.
- BAA registration should be deactivated.
For OECO:
- SA Qualifications.
- Form 23 EMB or 24, duly completed by applicant or training institution, with original qualification certificate or a copy certified by Notary Public.
- Original qualification or a copy certified by Notary Public.
- Certified copy of ID document with a clear photograph or Birth Certificate.
- Registration fee: as indicated in the form.
- Registered in the category: Independent Practice.
- Non- SA Qualifications
- Non- Citizens with foreign qualifications have to complete Form 315 and submit it together with all the relevant documents specified in the application form to the board for consideration. Additional Form Link
- SA Citizens with foreign qualifications have to complete Form 315A and submit it together with all the relevant documents specified in the application form to the board for consideration.
For Paramedic (ANT):
- If applicant was registered first as ANA, the ANA registration must be in order. (annual fee must be paid up to date before processing the ANT registration)
- Form 23 EMB duly completed by applicant or training institution/Technikon, with original qualification certificate or a copy certified by Notary Public.
- Certified copy of ID document with a clear photograph or Birth Certificate.
- Registration fee: as indicated in the form.
- ANA dual category should be deactivated
