ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for getting an Import Certificate for liquor in person, the applicant has to visit the Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) office of South Africa.
  2. The address and contact details can be found in the “Who to contact” section in the following link: Link
  3. Visit the FSQA office and obtain an application form for getting an Import Certificate for liquor from the relevant department.
  4. Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page.
  5. Complete the form as required with relevant details under respective sections. After completing the application form, attach the required documents with the completed form.
  6. Then, proceed to submit the package to the relevant authority at the office in person for further processes. Make the necessary payment as directed.
  7. You can also submit the application package through post to the postal address of the Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) office.
  8. After submission, the completed form and corresponding documents will be put into further verification and validation processes.
  9. Once all the processes got completed, the authorities will make necessary amendments for the certificate issuance process.

EligibilityEdit

  • Any person, who wants to import liquor or liquor products in bulk or bottles (excluding beer) to South Africa, can apply to obtain an Import Certificate.
  • The person applying and the product to be imported must satisfy the standards and criteria set by the issuing authority.


FeesEdit

Bulk importation: R433.00
Importation in Labelled containers: R253.00


ValidityEdit

You apply for the import certificate only once, where after the same import certificate number can be used provided that the composition, content, bottle size and label of the product does not change.

InstructionsEdit

  • If you want to import liquor in bottles, you must submit a sample packaged in an original bottle which will be used when selling. The label on the bottle will be evaluated to ensure it complies with the requirements of the Liquor Products Act.
  • If you are importing liquor in bulk you must submit a sample in an ordinary 750 ml bottle. It does not have to be the original bottle that will be used for sale because only the content of the liquor will be evaluated.
