Apply In-Person:
- To apply for exporting fish a commercial basis in person, the applicant has to visit the office of the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries.
- You can find the address and contact details in the “Who to contact” section in the following page: Link
- Visit the office and get the Application for a permit to export fish on a commercial basis form from the Fisheries Management Branch.
- Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page.
- Complete the form as required with relevant details under respective sections. After completing the application form, attach the required documents with the completed form.
- Then, proceed to submit the package to the relevant authority at the office in person for further processes. Make the necessary payment as directed.
- You can also submit the application package through post to the postal address of the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries.
- After all the processes have got completed, the concerned authorities will proceed to perform the necessary actions for the permit issuance process.

EligibilityEdit
- Any person living in South Africa, who wants to export fish on a Commercial basis to other countries, can apply.
- Any species of fish that needs to be exported is eligible under this permit category except freshwater fish.
FeesEdit
Please approach the authorities at the Fisheries Management Branch for fees details.
ValidityEdit
This export permit expires after three months and the permit holder must apply for a new permit once it has expired to continue exporting.

InstructionsEdit
- Before applying for an export permit for exporting fish on a commercial basis, inform your nearest branch of the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) about your export consignment if the fish you intend to export is not fresh and not for human consumption.
- If the fish that is going to be exported is fresh and for human consumption, you must inform the Port Health.
- If you are applying for export permits for bigeye tuna, southern bluefin tuna, swordfish, Antarctic toothfish, and Patagonian toothfish, you must attach the relevant catch statistical document for each consignment.
- Catch statistical documents are available from the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Branch: Fisheries Management.
