Apply In-Person:
- To check your name in a Voter Roll in person, you have to visit the Municipal Electoral Office in your province or your voting station.
- The address and contact details of the Municipal Electoral Office can be found in the link below:Link
- Visit the link and click on the drop-down menu in the field ‘Select your province’. Then, select the province that you are in from the drop-down menu.
- The contact and address information of the provincial office and the local Independent Electoral Commission will be displayed in the page. Find the information as applicable to your location.
- Please make a visit to the Municipal Electoral Office during office hours or your voting station on special registration days and approach the concerned department authorities.
- Inform them that you want to check whether your name is in the Voters’ roll for the upcoming election.
- Please be aware that you have to be already registered for voting in election and should have a valid South African Id with you when you visit the office.
- You will have to provide your South African ID number to the authority that you approach. Please cooperate with the authority as instructed.
- After providing the information that they ask, the authority will check and let you know whether your name is in the Voters’ roll or not.
- If yes, you can vote in the upcoming election and you can get from them your Voter registration details.
Apply Online
- To check your name in a Voter Roll online, you need to visit the website of Electoral Commission of South Africa and access the “My Registration Status” facility.
- This can be done by clicking on the following link: Link
- Visit the link and enter the 13-digit South African ID number in the “Enter your ID Number” field under the tab ‘Check your registration status’ and click on “Check Registration Status” button.
- After doing this, you will get your registration status, current voting station for the upcoming election and the ward number. Now, you are eligible vote in the upcoming election.
- If the number that you entered is incorrect, you will get an error message displayed as ‘The ID number you have entered appears to be invalid. Please re-enter the ID number’ or ‘Your request is not verified. Please try to refresh your page and try again’.
- Recheck the number you entered and try again entering the correct number.
Apply through SMS
- To check your name in a Voter Roll through SMS, you have to make sure that you have already registered in a voting station and you have the Voter ID with you.
- Check the ID number in the Voter ID and enter it carefully in a text message for sending an SMS from your mobile number.
- Then, send an SMS to the number “32810” and get your voting details like registration status, current voting station and ward number.
Apply through Mobile application
- To check your name in a Voter Roll through a Mobile application, click on the following link and download the ‘IEC South Africa’ app in your mobile: Link
- After downloading, tap “open” to open the app. The application will request whether you allow it to access your location. If yes, tap ”allow” option and if you do not want tap “deny” option.
- In the next screen, you will have to enter 13-digit Identity number and tab on “Next” button. If you have registered already, you will be displayed your registration details on the screen.
- Also, you can check your name on Voters’ roll by entering into the app and tapping on the left-side menu and selecting “My registration details” option.
- Enter the 13-digit Identity number in the screen that opens and tap on “Next” button.

- You can inspect the voters’ roll, register or update your registration details either at your Municipal Electoral Office during office hours or at your voting station on special registration days.
- The voters’ roll closes for an election on the day that the date of the election is proclaimed in the government gazette.
- If your voting district has changed, you will have reregister at your local IEC in the new voting district.
