Apply In-Person:

  1. To Apply for the Unemployment Insurance Fund Through the Department of Employment and Labour, the applicant must go to the Department of Employment & Labour office in South Africa. Contact Link
  2. The application form must be obtained from the authorities at the Labour department, or else it can also be downloaded from the official website linked here. Application Form Link
  3. Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  4. The application form must be filled with all the necessary details, and along with the supporting documents, it must be submitted to the officials at the “UIF department” in the Labour department’s office.
  5. The application will be verified on various factors.
  6. After complete verification if all the details provided by the applicant are legitimate then the Unemployment Insurance Fund claim will be approved by the UIF Department.
  7. Later, the insurance fund will be released to the applicants account, and it can be claimed.
  8. There is no fee for applying for the Unemployment Insurance fund.
  9. The processing time will be intimated to the applicant after applying.


Apply Online:

  1. To Apply for the Unemployment Insurance Fund Through the Department of Employment and Labour, the applicant can also process the application online using the official website linked here. Online Link
  2. If the applicant is a “New User”, then must register themselves on the given link, the applicant must select the “Yes” on the checkbox given below, and must select the “Continue” option to move further in applying.
  3. All the details for the registration must entered on the webpage, and must enter the “Register" option.
  4. The applicant will receive the “User Name and Password” to access the UIF account.
  5. The applicant will then need to enter few of the personal questions to set the “new password” as it is mandatory to create.
  6. Using the newly created “User Name and Password”, the applicant must log in.
  7. Now the user must select the “Benefit Application and Payments” on the left, and then select the “Apply for Benefits” option.
  8. The applicant must select the “Unemployment Insurance Fund” as the “type of Benefit”, and must select the “Apply” option in the bottom right corner.
  9. The applicant must accept the terms and conditions to proceed by selecting “Tick box” and must select the “Next” option.
  10. On the next page, the applicant must verify the bank details, and select the “Next” option to continue.
  11. The applicant must confirm or update your personal details, including physical and postal addresses and must select the “Next” option.
  12. Then must complete the information related to the occupation and qualifications, and select the “Next” option.
  13. The applicant must update the work seeker information and then must select the “Submit” option to complete and send the application to UID.
  14. After submitting, the applicant will receive a confirmation message.
  15. There is no fee for applying for the Unemployment Insurance fund.
  16. The online application form can be submitted immediately and the processing time to get the Unemployment Insurance Fund will be intimated to the applicant after applying.

EligibilityEdit

  • When the employer terminates the applicant’s service, then the applicant is eligible to apply for the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) for benefits.
  • The benefits are only available to the applicant, if they have been contributing to the UIF while they worked. If not, they do not qualify for the insurance fund.
