ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. To Apply for Rights to Undertake Commercial Fishing or to Engage in Mariculture or to Operate a Fish Processing Establishment, the applicant must go to the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment office in South Africa. Contact Link
  2. The application form must be obtained from the authorities at the DFFE office, or else it should be downloaded from the website. Application Form Link
  3. Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  4. The copy of the application form along with the required documents should be submitted to the Registrar in the DFFE office.
  5. If the applicant’s postal address is not a residential address/street address, then the applicant should send the application form and the required documents by registered mail or by courier to the Registrar in the SACSSP.
  6. After that the application will be verified by the registrar, and if the details provided and the supporting documents submitted are legitimate, then the rights to Undertake Commercial Fishing or to Engage in Mariculture or to Operate a Fish Processing Establishment will be approved by the officials.
  7. The registration fee of R240.00 must be paid while submitting the application, and the proof of payment must be attached to the application form.
  8. The complete fee details are given in the “Fees” section of this page.
  9. The process time to approve the rights of Fish Processing Establishment will be intimated to the applicant after submitting the application.

  • Application Form Link
  • Proof of ownership of site (title deed) or a valid lease agreement for the site.
  • Original Tax Clearance Certificate as approved by South African Revenue Services (SARS). (Provided that the previously submitted SARS certificate has expired).
  • If applying on behalf of a Right holder, a letter of authorization from the Right holder granting the nominated person permission to sign documents on his/her behalf or to collect the relevant permit(s) (True certified copies of the Identity documents of the Right holder and the nominated party must be attached).
  • True certified Identity documents and diving certification of all divers. (Note: All divers including permit holder must not have been found to be guilty of any contravention in terms of the Marine Living Resources Act of 1998)
  • True certified copies of valid vehicle registration for all nominated vehicles.
  • A true certified copy of a valid SAMSA (South African Maritime Safety Authority) Certificate.
  • A true certified copy of a valid radio license (VMS), reflecting the call sign, as issued by SATRA (South African Telecommunications Regulatory Authority).
  • A signed agreement between the vessel owner and farmer, if the vessel owner is not the farmer. (True certified copies of the Identity documents of the Right holder and the nominated party must be attached).
  • A certified copy of the nominated Skipper’s Identity document.
  • A letter of authorization from the Right holder granting the nominated person permission to sign documents on his/her behalf or to collect the relevant permit(s), (True certified copies of the Identity documents of the Right holder and the nominated party must be attached).
  • Proof of payment.

  • Application fee is R240.00.
  • Permit fee is R1662.00.
  • Amendment fee is R265.00

  • The validity period of the undertaking registration will be mentioned in the permit issued to the applicant.
