Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for Permits to Undertake Great White Shark Cage Diving by Attracting Sharks Using Bait or any Other Means, the applicant must go to the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment (DFFE) office Contact Link
2. The application form must be obtained from the authorities at the DFFE office at the Environment and Tourism department.
3. The government will release the notification for the permit application, and the applicants need to submit the application within 21 days from the date of publication of notice.
4. Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. The application form must be filled with all the necessary details, and along with the required documents it must be submitted to the officials at the DFFE office.
6. If the details and the documents submitted by the applicant is valid and legitimate, then the permit will be approved by the DFFE official.
7. Then the applicant will be issued with the permit certificate which can be used only in the government mentioned co-ordinate location.
8. The fee details and the processing time to get the permit will be intimated after applying.

• The applicant’s public liability insurance.

Eligibility

To apply for the permit, the applicant must have eligibility requirements such as:

• A juristic or a natural person who is a South African citizen in terms of the South African Citizenship Act, 1995 (Act No. 88 of 1995).
• A company registered in terms of the Companies Act, 1976 (Act No. 61 of 1973), in which the majority of the shareholders, as prescribed by the Minister, are South African persons.
• A Close Corporation in terms of the Close Corporation Act, 1984 (Act No. 69 of 1984), of which the majority of members are South African persons.
• A trust in which the majority of trustees, having the controlling power, are South African citizens, (or) a majority of the beneficial interests are held by South African citizens.
  

Fees

The prescribed fee details of the permit application will be intimated to the applicant while applying.

Validity

The Great White Shark Cage Diving by Attracting Sharks Using Bait or any Other Means permit is valid for a period of 4 years from the date of the issue of permit certificate.

Instructions

After getting the permit approval, the successful applicants will only be permitted to use one vessel per area and should such applicants wish to replace the nominated vessel prior written permission must be obtained from the Senior Manager of the Resource Management.
