ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. To Apply for Maritime Labour Certificate, the applicant must go to the Transport Department office in South Africa. Contact Link
  2. The application form must be obtained from the authorities at the Transport Department.
  3. Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  4. The application form must be filled with necessary details, and along with the required documents should be submitted to the respective officials at the Transport department.
  5. After submitting the application, the authorities responsible for issuing the certificate will inspect the ship and the ship owner’s audit.
  6. If the issuing authority is satisfied on the inspection, then the Maritime Labour certificate will be approved.
  7. After the approval, the applicant will be issued with the Maritime labour certificate.
  8. The fee details and the processing time to get the certificate will be intimated to the applicant while applying.

EligibilityEdit

  • Every ship-owner who owns a ship which weighs more than 500 tons or more, and engaged in international voyages is eligible to apply for the maritime certificate.



FeesEdit

  • The fee details to get the certificate will be intimated to the applicant while applying.



ValidityEdit

  • The maritime labour certificate is valid for a period not exceeding 5 years from the date of issuance.
  • However, the maritime labour certificate will not be valid if it is not renewed between the second and third year of the issue of the certificate.
  • The validity period of the maritime labour certificate will be mentioned in the certificate issued to the applicant.
