ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. To Obtain Ordinary Passport for Minors Adopted under the Regime of Simple Adoption by Foreigners, the applicant has to approach the Ministry of Foreign Affairs link
  2. Schedule an appointment at the Mexican consulate or embassy in the applicant's home country. The applicant can get the appointment by phone at 800 8010 773.
  3. The applicant has to visit the office on the appointment date.
  4. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  5. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  6. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  7. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  8. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  9. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  10. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  11. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  12. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  13. Once the passport is ready, the adoptive parent(s) or guardian(s) will need to return to the Passport Office to pick up the passport. The child may need to be present to have their photo taken for the passport.
  14. This entire process can be completed within 15 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

EligibilityEdit

  • This type of passport is issued to a child who is under 18 years of age and has been adopted under the simple adoption regime, which is a legal procedure that allows a person or a couple to adopt a child without the need for the birth parent's consent.
