ProcedureEdit
- The civil registry offices in each Mexican state issue marriage certificates. Couples should call the civil registry office to schedule an appointment to apply for marriage. After the ceremony, the couple will receive a marriage certificate.
- Copies of marriage certificates are available at the Civil Register Office where the ceremony was performed.
Required DocumentsEdit
- Marriage application (obtained at the civil register office) including a statement as to whether you will marry under joint or separate property .
- A certified copy of your birth certificate translated into Spanish and Apostilled
- If divorced, a certified copy of the divorce decree also translated into Spanish and Apostilled
- Blood tests (they have to be done in Mexico, civil register will provide more info)
- 2 legally qualified witnesses. The witnesses must be over 18, present at the ceremony and have valid government-issued identification.

EligibilityEdit
People under the age of 18 may not get married in Mexico without parental consent. With parental consent, boys have to be at least 16 and girls need to be at least 14 years of age.
FeesEdit
The Civil Registry charges approximately $520.00 pesos to perform a marriage at the Office of the Civil Registry.
Marriages may be performed elsewhere, but the fee for the civil ceremony should be ascertained from the Civil Registry; these fees are approximately $1,299.00 pesos.
ValidityEdit
The marriage certificate is valid until the couple divorces.

Civil marriages in Mexico take place at the civil registry office and are performed by an official in that office. Off-site civil marriages can take place for an additional fee established by the state's civil registry.
Required InformationEdit
- Your name
- Sex
- Date and place of birth
- Nationality
- Personal identification document number
- Marital status (never married or divorced or widowed)
- The name of your fiance/fianc
- Tests for HIV, VDRL (syphilis) and blood type. The exam must take place in Mexico.
- In cases of remarriage, individuals must submit the divorce decree or death certificate of his or her former spouse, translated into Spanish
Need for the DocumentEdit
In Mexico only civil marriages are recognized as legal. A civil marriage in Mexico is fully valid for legal purposes worldwide.
It is the responsibility of the person getting married in Mexico to contact the Civil Registry of the State where the ceremony will take place. The Civil Registry will set the requirements for the ceremony. Each State may have somewhat different regulations.
Information which might helpEdit
Each State in Mexico has slightly different laws in regard to when previously married couples may re-marry. Most places require that BOTH the bride and groom are to be are divorced (starting from the date of final divorce decree) at least one full calendar year before re-marrying.
