Apply In-Person
- Applicants should visit the Prime Minister's Office and collect the application form or use this link to download : Link (Application form)
- Please note, the declaration section on the resumption of citizenship application form has to be sworn in Mauritius, in the presence of a Judge or the Master and Registrar of the Supreme Court or a District Magistrate prior to submission.
- Submit the completed form along with the supporting documents (listed below) to the Secretary for Home Affairs, Prime Minister’s Office.
- If the content of your application is not accurately filled or there are missing documents, your application will not be accepted and will be issued back, for correction.
- If the registry/authorized official is satisfied that all the application file is in order, you will then be required to pay the A non-refundable application fee of Rs 2,000 at the cash counter, upon which you will be issued with a receipt.
- Your application file will then be forwarded to the Citizenship Department office to be processed and decision making by the prime minister within a period of 12 months.
- You will then be notified of the outcome of your application by letter, if your request is denied no reason will be given for the refusal to grant the certificate.
- Upon receiving the approval letter, visit the Prime Minister's Office with the letter and identification document and pay the Grant of certificate of resumption of citizenship Rs 15,000 (person not ordinarily resident in Mauritius) at the Cash Office, upon which you will be issued with an acknowledgement receipt and informed on when you should came and collect the certificate.
- On the schedule pick-up date, re-visit the Prime Minister's Office with the acknowledgement receipt and identification document

- Marriage certificate of applicant (if applicable).
- Birth and marriage certificates of applicant’s parents.
- certificate of foreign nationality of applicant or parents (if applicable)
- Evidence of residence permit of applicant or parents abroad. (if applicable)
- Photocopy of first five pages of applicant’s passport.
NOTE:
- Any change of name should be made executory in Mauritius
- The following supporting documents should be submitted in original and two photocopies should accompany the application (clean and legible copies on A4 format)

EligibilityEdit
Any Persons who meet the following criteria, can apply for registration as a citizen
- He/she was a citizen of Mauritius and also a national of a foreign country;
- He/she has attained the age of 21 on or after 12th March 1968 and before 1st October 1995.
- Ceased to be a citizen of Mauritius, for failing to renounce the nationality or citizenship of that foreign country, under the previous section 15* of the Mauritius Citizenship Act, may, if he is not ordinarily resident in Mauritius, apply for the resumption of his Mauritian citizenship.
FeesEdit
- A non-refundable application fee of Rs 2,000 should be paid upon submission of the application.
- Upon approval, a prescribed fee of Rs 15,000 is payable at the Cash Office of the Prime Minister's Office, Level 2, Government Centre, Port Louis and thereafter the Certificate of Registration is issued within one week.
ValidityEdit
- The Certificate for resumption/registration of citizenship is valid forever and should be kept safely as no duplicate is issued in case of loss.

Need for the DocumentEdit
Persons who had ceased to be a citizen of Mauritius can regain their citizenship, if their wish to do so by applying for resumption citizenship certificate as outlined on the Resumption of Mauritian Citizenship under Section 15 of the Mauritius Citizenship Act.
