ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for the renewal of Power (Electricity) Transmission License or Permit in person, the applicant has to visit the office of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.

  3. Visit the office and obtain an application form for Renewal of License from the relevant department. Or click here to download application form
  4. Complete the application forms with appropriate information under relevant sections.
  5. Please tick the “Transmission” option under section 2.0 since the application is forrenewingPower (Electricity) Transmission License.
  6. Attest it with your signature once completed. Make sure that you have attached all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  7. Then, submit it in person to the relevant authority at the office.
  8. After submission, the application and other documents will be forwarded for examination and verification processes.
  9. Once the verification and validation processes are over, the application will be approved and the officials will proceed to take required steps to issue the license.
  10. When the license document is ready to be collected, the applicant will be notified by the office and the applicant can collect it by any applicable means.
  11. Pay a non-refundable feefor the processing of the Application as directed by the officers.
  12. On receipt of the Application, the Commission shall note the date of its receipt and shall send an acknowledgement stating the date of the receipt to the Applicant.
  13. Upon review of the Application,the Commission may require the Applicant to furnish any additional information within a stipulated period of time.
  14. If the applicant complied with the Commission in this case, it shall pass a Resolution that the Application has been duly made.
  15. Within 30 days the Commission shall notify the Applicant in writing that the Application has been duly made, and request that the applicant publish the Statutory Public Notice.
  16. The Applicant should cause a publication of notice of the Application at his own expense, in the form and manner prescribed by the Commission in at least two daily newspapers.
  17. The commission will look upon the objections made and the hearings placed over.The findings following the inquiry/hearing shall be recorded in writing.
  18. After due consideration of the Application and inquiry if any, the Commission shall grant or refuse to grant the license.
  19. If the Commission has approved a license, the Commission shall inform the Applicant in writing of such approval and the conditions to be satisfied, including the fees to be paid before the grant of the license.
  20. If the Commission intends to refuse the grant of a license, it shall notify the Applicant in writing of its intention stating the reasons for the decision.

Any organisational structure in Nigeria, that holds a permit to transmit power/electricity inside the Republic, should apply to get the license renewed once during the completion of every license period.

InstructionsEdit

  • An Application shall be submitted in three (3) paper copies along with an electronic version in Microsoft Office software format contained in a CD-Rom.
  • Please remember to submit two hard copies and a soft copy of all supporting documents.
  • All Applications shall be accompanied with all the information specified in the Application form relating to the specific license being applied for.
  • An Application for a renewal of a license may be withdrawn in writing by an Applicant at any stage.
  • An application which has been withdrawn cannot be reactivated. However such an Application may be resubmitted as a new Application, upon payment of the prescribed processing fee.

Need for the DocumentEdit

Every license to transmitpower, obtained from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission needs renewal once in ten years, at least nine (9) months before the expiration of the license.


Information which might helpEdit

  • The Applicant with refused application shall have the opportunity to make adequate representations to the Commission within twenty-one (21) days of the Applicant’s receipt of the notification from the Commission of the refusal of a license.
  • The Commission shall consider the representation made by the Applicant and shall, if the representation is unsuccessful, or no representation was made, duly notify the Applicant in writing that the Application for a license has been refused.
  • The reasons for refusing the license shall be clearly stated in writing by the Commission to the Applicant.
