ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. To Export Animal or Vegetable Fats in person, the applicant should contact the Mauritius Agricultural Services Contact link
  2. Applicants should obtain the necessary application form from the Mauritius Agricultural Services.
  3. The Applicant must provide all necessary information in the application form, such as the type of live animal, purpose of import, origin of the animal or Vegetable Fats, destination of the animal or Vegetable Fats, and any required health and safety measures for transport, to successfully complete their application.
  4. The applicant should also ensure that all the necessary documents such as Transport and Transit Documents, health certificate and they can be found under the “Required Document” section of this page.
  5. The applicant is required to submit the duly completed form to the Mauritius Agricultural Services via email - [email protected] to proceed further with the application process and should ensure that all the information provided is accurate and up to date.
  6. The Mauritius Agricultural Services will review the application to ensure that all necessary information and documents are presented to make an informed decision and may request additional information or documents if further details are required.
  7. Upon reviewing the application, the applicant will be responsible for arranging the transportation of the animals to the port of departure to ensure that they arrive safely and on time.
  8. Upon arrival at the port of departure, the applicant will be required to present the official request form and the relevant supporting documents, such as identity documents and proof of financial resources, to the Mauritius Agricultural Services to obtain approval for their intended travel.
  9. The Mauritius Agricultural Services will then inspect the animals, ensuring that all necessary standards and regulations are met, before issuing the Export Permit and allowing the animals to be exported from the country.
  10. Once the application is approved, the Mauritius Agricultural Services will issue an export permit and the applicant will be required to pay the applicable fees and the fees details can be found under the "Fees" section of this page.
  11. The applicant is then required to submit the export permit to the relevant authorities in the destination country to obtain the necessary clearance to export the Animal or Vegetable Fats.
  12. The processing time for this procedure takes 3-4 weeks.

EligibilityEdit

  • Anyone who is registered with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Mauritius Revenue Authority is eligible to export animal or vegetable fats in Mauritius.
  • They must also have the necessary permits, licenses, and certificates required by the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Fisheries and the Mauritius Revenue Authority.



FeesEdit

  • Payment of import fee of Rs500 per animal and veterinary clearance fee of Rs500, as applicable at time of application.


Other charges are as follows:

  • Rent of kennel/cattery - Rs15 per day per animal.
  • The cost of food will be settled at the end of each month if they do not provide food for your dog/cat - Rs25 per day per animal.

InstructionsEdit

NOTE:
  • The owner shall be deemed to have studied and understood all conditions of import stated in the import permit.
  • If the conditions of the export Veterinary Certificate do not conform to those laid down in the import permit, landing of the animal will not be allowed, and it will be returned to the country of origin at the Importer’s expense or otherwise put to sleep (euthanasia).
  • If the animal is not imported within the period specified, the import permit shall be cancelled. A fresh permit should be obtained after payment of relevant fees again.
  • The date and number of the import permit must be shown on the Veterinary Certificate of Health issued by the Official Veterinary Services of the country of origin.
  • The animal must come in an IATA approved container.
  • The import permit may be cancelled without any compensation at any time in case of disease outbreak or suspicion of disease in the country of export.
  • THE ANIMAL WILL BE QUARANTINED FOR A MINIMUM PERIOD OF FIVE WORKING DAYS OR A MINIMUM PERIOD OF ONE MONTH DEPENDING ON THE COUNTRY OF ORIGIN AT DIVISION OF VETERINARY SERVICES, REDUIT, MAURITIUS.
  • Date and time of arrival and flight number should be communicated to this Office at least three days prior to arrival.
  • The animal will be permitted to land in Mauritius after it has been examined and found healthy by the Principal Agricultural Officer (Vet Services) or his representative. In case landing is not allowed, it will be returned to the country of origin at the Importer’s expense or otherwise put to sleep (euthanasia).
  • Entry of animals in Mauritius is highly regulated. An import permit issued by the Division of Veterinary services, the Competent Authority in Mauritius, is compulsory to import animals to the country. Individuals must strictly comply with the conditions of the import permit. Illegal entry of animals will not be tolerated. Defaulters are liable to be prosecuted under the present legislation in force in Mauritius.
