Apply In-Person:
- To Get Permit or License for the Transit of Arms and Ammunition on the Mauritian Territory for use by Privately Contracted Armed Security Personnel in person, the applicants should make the application to the Police Divisional Headquarters where they reside.

- The application should be made in the form of a letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police and the applicant should provide the required information such as the reasons for the transit, the make, model, type and quantity of the arms and ammunition.
- The applicant should also provide the details of the security company (name, address, contact number, etc.) for which the arms and ammunition are to be used.
- The applicant must submit two copies of the application form along with two passport-sized photographs, a valid passport, a valid driver’s license, a valid firearm license and they can be found under the “Required Document” section of this page.
- A fee for this procedure has to be paid as per the authority’s request.
- Upon submission of the application by the applicant, The Police Divisional Headquarters will forward the application to the Commissioner of Police for further processing to ensure that all the necessary procedures for approval have been followed.
- The Commissioner of Police will then review the application, and depending on the circumstances, may require the applicant to provide additional documents or information to process the application satisfactorily.
- Once the application is approved, the Commissioner of Police will issue a permit or license for the transit of arms and ammunition, thereby allowing the applicant to legally and safely carry arms and ammunition from one place to another.
- The applicant should then submit the permit or license to the Customs Department for clearance of the arms and ammunition.
- The Customs Department will examine the arms and ammunition and, upon completing their inspection, issue a clearance certificate, thus allowing the arms and ammunition to be transported from one place to another.
- Generally, the processing time for this type of permit or license can range from several weeks to several months.
- Note: The Transit of Arms and Ammunition in the Mauritian Territory is strictly regulated, and any violation of the regulations may lead to prosecution under the Arms and Ammunition Act.

EligibilityEdit
The Mauritian government requires all personnel providing armed security services to be licensed or permitted by the Commissioner of Police. This includes private contractors, and applicants must meet the following criteria:
