ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. Toregister a New Vehicle in person, the applicant has to visit the nearest Vehicle Licensing Office in his/her state.
  2. The contact and address details of the approved Vehicle Licensing Offices for each state in Nigeria can be found in the following page:Link
  3. Visit the office and request the relevant authority to issue an application form and relevant forms for registering a new vehicle.
  4. Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page, when you visit the office.
  5. Complete the forms as applicable by filling the details as required in the respective sections. After that, attach the necessary documents with the forms.
  6. Submit the application forms and documents to the relevant authority at the office which will be forwarded to a police officer for verification.
  7. He/she will verify the submitted documents and stamp it with the date on which the verification has been completed.
  8. Then the applicant will be directed to pay the required amount of fees for the license/number plate.
  9. Pay the fees and submit the receipt at the office to obtain the allocated plate number.
  10. Therefore, your new vehicle registration is completed and your submitted documents will be returned back.


Apply Online

  1. To apply for registering a New Vehicle online, the applicant has to visit the official website of the National Vehicle Identification System: online application link
  2. Visit the link and click on “New Vehicle Registration” option which is available in the homepage.
  3. Vehicle Registration form will be displayed. In the first section, you will have to provide details about the vehicle for which you need registration and also make other relevant selections by clicking the respective drop-downs.
  4. After completing ‘Vehicle Information’, click on the ‘+’ symbol below that to open ‘Owner Information’ tab.
  5. Similarly, provide details about the owner in this section by making appropriate selections and entering required details in the fields provided.
  6. Then, click on the ‘+’ symbol below that to open ‘other Information’ tab. Enter the Driver License number, name of the bearer and select the state where you want the plate number to be allocated.
  7. Check the ‘Request Fancy Number Plate’ box if you want and enter the number you wish to obtain in the field provided, then click “Check Available” button to check if it is available.
  8. Once you have completed filling the form, click “Preview” button to view your completed application form once.
  9. Check it properly and if there is anything to be changed, click “Edit” button and you will be redirected back to the application form page.
  10. Make the necessary changes and click the “Preview” button once again. Check the declaration and click “Submit” button.
  11. Upon submission, your application details will be displayed with a Reference number. Print it for your reference by clicking “Print” button.
  12. This is the final step your online application process and you will be communicated by the office through your provided email ID regarding further processes.

  • Any person in Nigeria, who has bought a new vehicle that needs registration, is eligible to apply.
  • The applying person must have a valid proof of Identification and valid Driving license.

  • Usually, a standard registration plate’s price range varies from N12500 to N50000 and customized plate costs around N80000.
