Procedure

Apply In-Person

1. To obtain a license to establish Technical and Technological Institutions i.e Private Polytechnics, Monotechnic, and Similar Tertiary Institutions), you should make your application to the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). Please view the NBTE contact details through this link: - Contact details.
2. Obtain the application forms and the guidelines from the Programmes Department of the NBTE office located at this address: Plot B, Bida Road, P.M.B. 2239, Kaduna.
3. Complete the application form accordingly and gather all the required supporting documents and attach them to the completed application form in a single file.
4. Visit the NBTE office located at this address: Plot B, Bida Road, P.M.B. 2239, Kaduna, and submit the complete application to the Executive Secretary of the NBTE.
5. The NBTE will analyse your application and schedule a date to inspect the site of the proposed institution.
6. On the scheduled date, a team of specialist staff of the NBTE and experts will visit the proposed institution to confirm if the institution meets all the required standards as guided by the NBTE guidelines.
7. The inspection team will prepare a report of the inspection results and forward the report to the Management of the NBTE for further consideration.
8. The management will assess the inspection report and review the completed application forms and submitted documents to verify if the institution meets the provisions of the Education as directed in the National Minimum Standards and Establishment of Institutions (Amendment) CAP E3 LFN 2004.
9. The management will forward their recommendation to the NBTE board for consideration and recommendation to the Honourable Minister of Education to approve the establishment of the institution.
10. Where the management and or the Board determines that the institution has not met conditions for approval, you will be informed by the management to satisfy the required standards so that a recommendation can be forwarded to the Honourable Minister of Education for approval.
11. If the Honourable Minister of Education has received your application and denied the approval, the NBTE will write a letter to you stating the reason/s for denying approval.
12. If the application to establish the institution receives the approval of the Honourable Minister of Education, the institution will be listed in NBTE’s publications as accredited or approved to operate in Nigeria.
13. You will be issued the license to operate the institution.
