Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To obtain International Ship Security Certificate in person, the applicant has to visit the office of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency.

3. Visit the office and obtain the application form for International Ship Security Certificate from the respective department.
4. Make sure that you have all the required documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. Complete the application form as required with necessary information and attest with your signature.
6. Then, attach the documents required with the completed form and proceed to submit it to the concerned official at the Office for further verification and application processing.
7. Also, pay the required amount of fees as directed by the officials.
8. After successful submission of the application and payment, the application will be forwarded for required verification processes.
9. The concerned ship/vessel is then inspected and examined by a Recognized Security Organisationto confirm whether the proposed ship security plan has been implemented or not.
10. Upon confirmation, the RSO sends a recommendation to NIMASA regarding the approval of the verification.
11. On receiving the recommendation, NIMASA proceeds to prepare the International Ship Security Certificate.
12. Once the Certificate of Registration is ready to be collected, the office will inform the applicant to collect it through any applicable means.

• Ship Security Plan (SSP) Record for verification done recently
• Confirmation report regarding Ship Security Plan (SSP)
• Extract copy of SSP from ship/vessel’s register
• Evidence for the operational status of the safety alert system in the ship
• Any supporting document (as instructed)

Eligibility

• Any Ship agent, whose ship/vessel needs to be certified for International Ship Security, can apply.
• The concerned ship/vessel must be protected with the Ship Security Plan which was proposed by the ship agent previously.

Validity

The Certificate is usually issued for five years.

Instructions

• It is important that the completed form must contain all the information required properly and the form must be filled legibly, in order to get accepted by the Authority.

• Make sure that you attach all the required documents as specified by the authority to avoid rejections.

Required Information

• Name of the fleet owner
• Country of origin
• Registry port’s name
• Official number and call sign
• International Maritime Organization number and class
• Estimated Time of Arrival and Estimated Time of Departure
• Security level of the vessel
• Ports of call (past ten)
• Type of cargo and Number of crew

Need for the Document

• International Ship Security Certificate (ISSC) is required as an evidence for the fact that the ship has been checked and verified regarding the compliance with the security standards derived by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
• It is required to be produced to the Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) when the ship enters the port to get adequate security provisions for the Vessel.
