Apply In-Person:
- To get ship clearance certificate, the applicant has to contact the Nigerian Ports Authority whose contact can be found in the following contact link
- The applicant has to ensure that it is ready with all the required documentations which will be verified by various regulatory boards.
- Please refer the “Required Documents” section of this page for list of documents required.
- Firstly, officials from Port Health will board the respective vessel and carry out inspection in line with International Health regulation to ensure that ship and crew are free of communicable diseases.
- It issues a Free Pratique as an acknowledgement of the inspection and then, officers from Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) approaches the Ship’s Master and demands certain documents essential for clearance.
- After obtaining clearance from NIS, the Ship’s agent should forward the notice of Ship’s entry and other important documents to the Nigerian Customs Services Enforcement Department.
- Then, officials from Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) enter the vessel and demands certain documents required for Ship clearance.
- On clearance completion by NDLEA, Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) authorities board the vessel and requests for Import Permit, Phytosanitary Certificate and conducts an inspection.
- Once when all the regulatory bodies are satisfied with the products of trade and the necessary documentation, a Ship Clearance Certificate is issued.
