Procedure

Apply Online

1. To apply for a Seaman Book (Certificate of Identity) in person, the applicant must visit the Nigerian Immigration Portal by clicking the following link: Link
2. In the page that opens, provide your general details and contact information in the relevant fields, check the declaration box and click “Next” button.
3. Further, complete the online application form by entering all the required details and “Submit application” form.
4. In the next page, your application ID and reference number will be displayed, note it down, scroll down and click “Print & Continue” button.
5. Make a copy of the completed application form and click “Continue Application” button to proceed.
6. In the next page, your profile, application, payment and other information will be present. Go through once and click “Proceed to Online Payments” button.
7. Then, choose a payment currency as applicable by clicking the corresponding radio button and click “Continue” button.
8. Choose an applicable payment mode in the next page and click “Proceed to Make Payment” button.
9. Complete the payment by following the on-screen instructions and also print the payment receipt by the same way.
10. After payment, your application lodgement will be over and you will be provided with payment reference number.
11. Then, you have to take all the documents required to be submitted for the type of Passport that you have completed online application and visit the Passport office that you chose during the online application.
12. Visit the office and submit the required documents to the relevant authority in the office. After submission, the submitted applications and attached documents will put forth for verification and validation.
13. After checking and finding that the requirements have been furnished properly, the officials will proceed to perform further required actions.
14. Once all the necessary processes are over and Passport document is ready for collection, you will be notified and asked to collect the document.

• Any Nigerian citizen who works on shipping vessels and watercrafts are eligible for a Seaman book for visiting overseas.
• The applying person must have a Guarantor with a Standard Nigerian Passport.
