ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person

  1. To apply for a Certificate of Recognition as a Manufacturer of Herbal, Cosmetic and Pharmaceutical in person, the applicant has to visit the office of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control in Nigeria.
  2. The address and contact details of the NAFDAC can be found at the bottom of the following page:contact link
  3. Visit the office and obtain an application form to be completed for obtaining a Certificate of Recognition as a Manufacturer of Herbal, Cosmetic and Pharmaceutical from the relevant department.
  4. Complete the application form with appropriate information under relevant sections. Attest it with your signature once completed.
  5. Once completed filling the application form, make sure that you attached all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  6. Then, submit it in person to the relevant authority at the office. Make the stipulated payment as directed by the officials.
  7. After submission, the application and other documents will be forwarded for examination and verification processes.
  8. Once the verification and validation processes are over, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control will make arrangements for an inspection in the manufacturing premises.
  9. If the premises are found to be in compliance with specified requirements having sufficient facilities for the manufacturing process, the application will be approved and the officials will proceed to take required steps to issue the Certificate.
  10. When the document is ready to be collected, the applicant will be notified by the office and the applicant can collect it by any applicable means.

InstructionsEdit

  • There are various Good Manufacturing Requirements with respect to the Personnel, Building/Facilities, Equipments, Raw/Packaging Materials And Sources, Environmental Sanitation, Documentation, Distribution system, Transportation and Handling and Labelling of products.
  • There should be personnel strength of not more than five (5) staff and should wear protective apparel/gears, such as head, face, hand and arm coverings to protect the products from contamination.
  • Persons in charge of production in a micro-scale enterprise for the manufacture of cosmetics/herbal medicines/household products should have a minimum of Ordinary National Diploma in a relevant science discipline or provide evidence of registration with the Traditional Medicine Board (for herbal medicines) and requisite experience.
  • The building facilities should consist of segregated production areas, storage areas, cloak rooms, screened windows and entrance doors with adequate ventilation and lighting. Access into the facility should be controlled and it should be kept clean at all times.
  • The water treatment plant for water-based products must be adequate to consistently produce de-ionized water (for cosmetics and germicides) and potable water (for herbal medicines) of the required physical, chemical and microbiological quality.
  • Distributors’ names, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, quantity of products issued, batch numbers, dates of manufacture and expiry should be maintained.
  • Applicants can enquire the agency about the required documents to be attached with this application form.
  • Applicants are advised to complete the application form neatly and completely with absolute legibility and appropriateness to avoid rejections. Also, all the required documents must be furnished completely.
