Apply In-Person (Outside Canada)
- To apply for a work permit as a maintenance worker for industrial or commercial equipment, the applicant can apply for an employer-specific work permit. The applicant will need to fill out an application form, use the following link for the application package Link
- The applicant’s employer must also complete certain steps before the applicant can apply for a work permit, find further information under the “Instructions” section of this page.
- The applicant will need to select the country they are applying from.
- Under the “Where are you applying from” option select the country.
- Fill in the application form on the computer, click on the “Validate” button to ensure that all details are entered correctly.
- The applicant will have to print the completed application form on non-glossy paper.
- The application will have a barcode; attach this on top of the completed application form.
- The applicant will have to make a fee payment, find fee-related information under the “Fees” section of this page.
- Under the “Where to submit your application” option, select the country and the address where the application form needs to be submitted will be displayed.
- The applicant shall receive their work permit online or through mail within a few weeks to a month from the submission of the application

- If the applicant has an IRCC account, log in using the login credentials.
- If the applicant does not have an account, follow these steps:
- On the login page, click on “Register”.
- Choose whether the applicant wants to log in using GCKey, i.e., simply creating a username and password or if the applicant wants to create an account using the credentials given by the institution they work for.
- If the applicant is registering using a sign-in partner, they will have to enter information about their place of work and bank details.
- Agree to the terms and conditions.
- The account will be created.
- If the applicant is applying using GCKey, agree to the terms and conditions.
- Enter username and click on “Continue”.
- Create a password and click on “Next”.
- Enter security questions and answers and click on “Submit”, the account has been created.
- Now, log in to the account.
- Once logged in, scroll to the bottom and click on “Apply to come to Canada”.
- The applicant will need to enter their personal reference code and answer a few questions.
- Enter the country the applicant is applying from.
- The applicant will need to fill in an application form, enter all the relevant details in the application form.
- Before uploading documents, the applicant will need to answer some questions.
- Once the applicant answers all questions, they will have to upload digital copies of all documents as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- Submit the application and the documents, the applicant will need to make fee payment using a credit or debit card, find fee-related information under the “Fees” section of this page.
- Submit the application by clicking on “Submit”.
- The applicant can track the status of their application on their IRCC account by clicking on the “Track Application” icon.
- Enter the application number and the applicant will be able to see the status of their application.
- The applicant shall receive their work permit online or through mail within a few weeks to a month from the submission of the application.

- A copy of the job offer letter from the prospective employer
- The Offer of Employment number (The Offer of Employment number starts with an “A” and is followed by 7 numbers).
- Evidence that the applicant meets the requirements of the job.
- A copy of the Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ) issued by the Ministère de l'Immigration, de la Francisation et de l'Intégration (MIFI) (if the applicant is going to work in Quebec).

EligibilityEdit
- The applicant presently holds a valid study or work permit (Not mandatory)
- The applicant is the spouse of a study or work permit holder.
- The applicant was previously authorized to work without a permit.
- The applicant presently holds a valid Temporary Resident Permit.
- The applicant is a refugee claimant or an applicant for permanent residence in Canada under section 207 of the IRPR.
- The applicant is a trader or investor, intra-company transferee or professional under the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA).
- An applicant who has successfully graduated from a program at a Canadian university, community, college, CÉGEP, or publicly funded trade/technical school.
- The applicant has a temporary residence permit.
- The applicant must ensure that they leave Canada after their work permit is over.
- The applicant must have enough money to take care of themselves and their family.
- The applicant must be a law-abiding citizen.
- The applicant must be in good health.
The applicant is eligible for an employer-specific work permit if:
- The applicant needs to enter Canada to make repairs on out of warranty equipment or any other emergency repairs.
- If the applicant does not make these repairs it could result in disruption of employment for Canadians.
- The applicant must meet the general eligibility requirements.
- The applicant's employer must pay an employer compliance fee.
- The employer must submit an offer of employment to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
- The employer must provide the applicant with an offer of employment number.

- The applicant is exempt from paying the fees if they won't be paid other than small expenses for living or non-monetary benefits.
- The applicant will have to pay a fee of 155$ for each work permit application.

- An employer-specific work permit is usually valid for a period of 1-2 years or depends on the duration of the job.

InstructionsEdit
- In the work permit application, the applicant must select “Exemption from Labor Market Impact Assessment” as type of work permit in the details of the intended work section of the application form.
- The applicant’s employer must submit an offer of employment to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada through the employers portal.
- The employer must pay a compliance fee unless they are exempt.
- The employer must give the applicant the offer of employment number.
- If the applicant is outside Canada, an approval letter will be sent to the applicant; this letter must be brought with the applicant and they must present it at the port of entry.
- The applicant coming from outside Canada will only get their work permit the day they arrive in Canada, at the port of entry.
