ProcedureEdit

  • Applications to renew a dental practitioner internship license are done online.
  • Renewal applications should be done at least one week before the expiry date of the current license.

Apply Online

  1. Licensed Dental interns who have not completed their internship program within the first year and wish to continue with their internship program need to make a renewal application for a dental practitioner internship license by making an application to the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council. The applicant can make the renewal application online by visiting the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council’s Online Services Portal through the following link: KMPDC Online Services Portal
  2. Log into the KMPDC Online Services Portal using your “Username or Email address” and your password.
  3. Upon entering your accounts’ homepage, click on the “Apply for License” tab in the menu on the left pane to enter the next page.
  4. Please click on the “Renewal ” option, to make your renewal application.
  5. On the retention page click on the “Click here to Renew Dental Internship License for 20xx” button to enter the next page.
  6. Please provide the required information for renewal and click on the “Save & Continue” button.
    • This will cause an invoice for payment of the licensing fees to be generated.
  7. On the MPDC Invoice page “Click to Pay Now” blue tab to pay for the Health Facility Licence
    • Proceed to make the payment using the instructions given online. The Payment instructions will be generated and displayed automatically in the portal. More information about the Replacement fees to be paid is given in the “Fee” section of this page
  8. Upon making the renewal payment, a payment receipt and the Renewed Dental Practitioner Internship Licence will be generated online.
  9. Click on the “Download Receipt “ button and the “Download License” button to download the payment receipt and Renewed Dental Practitioner Internship Licence respectively.
    • Print the receipt and license and keep them for reference.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • It is illegal to undertake an internship without an internship license issued by the Council
  • An internship helps an intern to consolidate his or her knowledge, skills and attitudes to enable them be competent dental practitioners.
  • An internship is also supposed to enable an intern to acquire knowledge of commonly used drugs and their rational use, be conversant with the National Essential Drug List and know the dangerous drugs and poisons Act and its application.
  • It is important to keep your license valid at all times.

Every dental officer intern shall be required to undergo an internship training program for a period of twelve months (12), and an additional one calendar month of paid leave. The rotations are outlined as follows:

  • Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery – 11 weeks
  • Prosthetics and Conservative Dentistry – 11 weeks
  • Periodontology – 11 weeks
  • Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics – 11 weeks
  • Community Dentistry
