==Procedure==
<ol>
<li>The applications for renewing driving licenses are processed in:</li>
*all district secretarial offices
*main office in Verahera – Colombo
<li>This is for licenses, whose records are within the department system</li>
<li>The applicant should obtain the application form “M.T.A. 157” from:</li>
<ol style="list-style-type:lower-alpha">
<li>the District secretarial offices for normal service</li>
<li>the Main office in – Colombo for one day service - priority)</li>
</ol>
<li>The applicant submits the filled form directed to Commissioner, along with required documents listed in the "Required Documents" section of this page to:</li>
<ol style="list-style-type:lower-alpha">
<li>the District secretarial offices (normal service)</li>
<li>the main office in Verahera – Colombo (priority service)</li>
</ol>
<li>The department will issue a temporary license after receiving the application</li>
<li>After that, the department checks for the accuracy of the documents provided</li>
<li>When the department is satisfied that the applicant has fulfilled all requirements, the license is renewed </li>
<li>All applications should be submtted to the assistant commissioner of the Licensing Division</li>
</ol>

==Required Documents==
*Current driver license
*National Identity Card or a valid passport
*For light vehicles - Medical fitness certificate obtained from a Medical Officer registered with the Sri Lanka Medical Council on an M.T.A. 31 form, within six months.
*For heavy vehicles - Medical Fitness certificate obtained from the Sri Lanka National Transport Institute within a period of six months.

==Eligibility==
*Every application for the renewal of a driving licence should be submitted to the Commissioner-General three months before the expiry of a licence currently in force.
*The applicant provides all the documents required within the process (please refer to the section: “Documents Required”)
*Note that any application that does not fulfill above conditions will be disqualified.

==Fees==

*Normal service
**For a 1 time renewal (3 years): Rs. 320.00
**For every extra renewal: Rs. 300.00

*Priority service
**For a 1 time renewal (3 years): Rs. 370.00
**For every extra renewal: Rs. 720.00
: If the renewal is for more than two times, an extra fee of Rs.600.00 should be added to the priority fee

==Validity==
Explain the time until which the certificate/document is valid.
