==Instructions==
*The Government of Ghana’s (GOG) regulatory body responsible for food product manufacturing, importation, exportation, advertisement and distribution is the Food and Drugs Board (FDB). The Food and Drugs Board was established and became fully operational in August 1997. The FDB was established to protect and promote public health by ensuring that food and drugs consumed in Ghana are wholesome and safe.
*The Food and Drugs law was passed in 1992. All food products imported, advertised, sold or distributed in the country must first be registered with the Food and Drugs Board under Section 18 and 25 of the Food and Drugs law, 1992 (PNDCL 305B) and Section 4 (b) of the Food and Drugs (Amendment) Act 523, 1996. A certificate with a registration number is then issued with respect to the product. In addition only companies duly registered by the Registrar General’s Department shall be permitted to import food and drugs.
*According to FDB (Food, Drugs and other Goods) General Labelling Rules, 1992, “food” includes “any article manufactured, sold or represented for use as food or drink for human consumption, chewing gum and any ingredient which may be mixed with food for any purpose whatsoever”. Currently the Food and Drugs law is undergoing review and amendments to ensure that all food products, for example water, is included in the food law.
<br>
==Information which might help==
*The 2019 FAIRS report provides up to date information on the regulations and procedures for the importation of food and agricultural products to Ghana. This year the Ghana Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) proposed substantial changes to fees and charges for imported food and beverage products. These changes are currently under review by the Parliament of Ghana, with a targeted approval for early 2020.
*This report is prepared by the USDA/ Foreign Agricultural Service, Office of Agricultural Affairs Accra for U.S. exporters of food and agricultural commodities. While every possible care was taken in the preparation of this report, information provided may not be completely accurate either because policies/regulations/directives have changed since its preparation, or because clear and consistent information was not available. Post highly recommends those U.S. exporters verify the full set of import requirements with their foreign customers, who are usually best equipped to research such matters with local authorities, before any products are shipped.
<br>
