*A passport in Ghana is valid for a period of only 10 years. To continue availing of the benefits of the passport, the individual needs to renew the passport before the expiry of 10 years or after the validity expires. A passport is widely accepted as a proof of identification, address and age.

*A passport is a document, issued by the national government. It certifies the identity and nationality of the holder for travel abroad. It contains information about the holder; like name, gender, date and place of birth.
*This document does not in itself entitle the passport holder entry into another country, or consular protection while abroad nor any other privileges. However, it does normally allow the passport holder to return to the country where the passport was issued. A right to consular protection arises from international treaties, while the holder's return to the issuing country depends on the laws prevailing in that country.
*If applicant have used-up all the pages of his/her passport and damaged his/her passport, applicant may request for a new passport to be issued. Attach the old passport when applicant’s applying for a new one. In case of a damaged passport with valid visa, apply for a new passport and then to the Embassy concerned for a replacement visa.
*Change of Name/Status of a holder of a passport an only be applied in the Passport Office by the director of Passports. Do no tamper with applicant’s passport or insert the names of his/her children yourself.
