New page

==Procedure==
#Completing Your Initial Application Package. A list of documents you will need to submit is listed under the 'Required Documents' section.
#Complete the CG-10 Application Form. This can be done online - [http://www.fldoe.org/teaching/certification/on-line-application-status-lookup-site.stml LINK] or you can also fill out a paper application. If you completed an education program from an institution outside the United States, special information about documenting your educational training will be found under Applicants with Foreign Academic Training. The CG-10 Application Form includes instructions on the front page. Carefully read and follow said instructions. Note: Applications with blank or improperly completed sections will not be evaluated. If you do not have a US social security number, please request an application form by mail. To know more - [http://www.fldoe.org/teaching/certification/on-line-application-status-lookup-site.stml link]
#Pay the processing fee. When you apply for a Florida Educator's Certificate your application package must include appropriate processing fee for each subject or endorsement you request on your CG-10 Application Form. There is a worksheet included with the CG-10 instructions page to assist you with calculating your fee. Processing fees are nonrefundable. Your payment can be in the form of a cashier's check, personal check or money order. '''Notes:'''
##Include your social security number or Florida DOE# on your check or money order to ensure proper accounting. If you do not have a U.S. social security number or Florida DOE# then include your date of birth.
##Do not staple your check to the application form. Damage to the application form will significantly delay your processing time.
##If a personal check is returned to BEC from the bank, a fee of $30.00 will be assessed in addition to the amount of the check you submitted. Your application will not be evaluated until all fees have been received.
#Submit Official Transcripts. You must submit an official transcript showing at least a bachelor's degree from an accredited or approved U.S. institution to apply for a certificate. College level credits awarded by the American Council on Education (ACE) are also acceptable. <br> For holders of a degree issued outside the United States, you must hold a degree that is determined to be equivalent to a U.S. accredited bachelor's degree. This initial determination of degree equivalency is made by a credential evaluation agency. For step by step information about documenting foreign credentials for certification, visit Applicants with Foreign Academic Training. Notes:
##Only original transcripts will be evaluated. Do not send photocopies, grade reports, or internet printouts.
##You must send the original transcripts from all colleges you attended. BEC will not be able to conduct a complete evaluation without all of your credit and credentials officially documented in your file.
##Be sure that your social security number or Florida DOE# is on each transcript. Some institutions do not display the social security number without a specific request from the student. Therefore, ask the registrar's office when you request transcripts that your social security number be shown on your transcript. You may also write your social security number or Florida DOE# on the document.
##Out-of-State Certificates. If you hold a valid standard certificate from a state other than Florida or a U.S. territory, send in a photocopy of the front and back of your valid certificate with your application form. If your certificate shows any information in code (i.e.: numbers or letters that are not defined on the certificate), send a list of what the codes represent.
#After submitting your application, the Bureau will evaluated the complete package to determine your eligibility for a Florida certificate. The result of that determination is mailed to you as an Official Statement of Status of Eligibility.
#To be issued a Florida Temporary Certificate, an individual must be employed either in a public school or a nonpublic school that has a state-approved program for demonstration of professional education competence (a requirement for issuance of a Florida Professional Certificate). Several of the Florida nonpublic school associations have state-approved programs which are implemented in each of their member schools.
#Submit fingerprints for certification:
##Employees of Public Schools: If the results of your fingerprints are clear, your certificate is issued within 30 days of our Bureau's receipt of your district's request.
##Employees of Nonpublic Schools: Follow the required fingerprint processing instructions and consult with your employer. Upon completion of the specific certification fingerprint requirements, your school administrator will forward a request to issue your certificate either directly to the Bureau or to the accrediting association to which your school belongs. If the results of your fingerprints are clear, your certificate is issued within 30 days of our Bureau's receipt of the cleared records from both the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

==Eligibility==
Florida offers two types of Educator Certificates: the Temporary Certificate and the Professional Certificate.

'''Temporary Certificate:''' Gives applicants time to complete all requirements for a Professional Certificate while teaching full-time
*Complete all application process requirements
*Hold at least a bachelor's degree
*Demonstrate Mastery of Subject Area Knowledge or meet Subject Specialization with a 2.5 GPA for a requested subject
*The Florida Temporary Certificate is issued after the individual is employed in a Florida school and his/her fingerprints have been cleared.

'''Professional Certificate:''' Florida's highest Educator Certificate

The certificate is issued after the individual's fingerprints have been cleared. The individual seeking employment in Florida will be assisted in completing the fingerprint process by his/her employer. A U.S. citizen who is not seeking employment in Florida or has an immediate need for issuance of the Professional Certificate can contact the Bureau of Educator Certification for assistance.

Note:: If a U.S. citizen chooses to have his/her fingerprints processed prior to Florida employment for issuance of the Professional Certificate, it may be necessary to have the fingerprints reprocessed, and the individual may have to pay a second processing fee as a condition of employment in a Florida public school.
