==Procedure==
If you apply to the Registration Office in your municipality of residence, you can register a name by which you wish to be addressed based on your full name. The name by which you wish to be addressed must always contain your surname and at least one of your Christian names written out in full.

To change your names please contact the church where resident. If you do not have that information, please contact the Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs in Denmark. Make sure to include all the information you have about your registration.

If you live outside Dennmark and wish to change your name, please follow the guidelines below. Denmark follows the domicile principle, i.e. you must follow the regulations for changing your name in the country where you are domiciled.

In order to officially change your name you can contact a solicitor or use an online Deed Poll Service.

There are many legal firms who can provide a deed poll service. These can be found on the Internet.

All changes of name obtained must be legalised by the Legalisation Department .

Once you have changed your name, you must inform the Danish Civic Register (Folkeregisteret) in the area where you used to live (sidste boplskommune).

You dont need a deed poll if you want to take your partners surname after getting married or entering into a civil partnership.

Send a copy of your marriage or civil partnership certificate to record holders, with a covering letter, and your documents and records will be changed for free to show your new surname.
