==Procedure==
#To renew your vehicle registration certificate in Chandigarh the applicant has to approach the RTO office of his area. Please follow our “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page to get details of the RTO offices.

#Now select the state from the drop down menu.
#After selecting the state the applicant will be redirected to the Vahan Parivahan website.
#On the new page on the left side there is a box to select state and RTO, click on proceed.
#Select online services to “Apply for Transfer of Ownership, Change of Address, Hypothecation [Addition/Continuation/Termination], Duplicate RC]”.
#Enter the vehicle details as a Vehicle Registration No. and Chassis Number(Last 5 characters) and click on the “Verify Details” button.
#Now the complete details of the vehicle will be visible.

==Eligibility==
*Dealer is eligible to apply on behalf of the owner of the vehicle. 
*In case of registration of temporary registered vehicle - the owner may apply for registration.

==Validity==
*In case of non-transport vehicles like two wheelers and cars, the registration certificate is valid for 15 years from the date of first registration and it is renewed after every five subsequent years. 
*In case of transport vehicles like goods and passenger carriers the registration certificate is valid till certificate of fitness is valid. 
*The Non-Transport Category vehicle is renewed for 5 years. 
*The Transport Category Vehicle is renewed for 1 year. 
*Renewal should be made not more than 60 days before the date of its expiry

==Need for the Document==
*Vehicle registration's purpose is to establish clear ownership and to tax motorist or vehicle owners. It is a requirement by the state. 
*As per the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, all vehicles either transport or non-transport should renew their registration of vehicle after a period of time as allowed 
*For Non-transport type vehicle like car, bike etc. need to be renewed after 15 years and 5 years afterwards 
*For transport type vehicles like bus the renewal is required for every year, as long as it is considered road worthy by the department.

*While applying - Documents can be made in duplicate if the vehicle is held under an agreement of Hire-purchase / Lease / Hypothecation and Duplicate copy with the endorsement of the Registering Authority to be returned to the Financier simultaneously on Registration of motor vehicle.
